Wiz Khalifa, the renowned rapper and 10-time Grammy nominee, found himself in legal trouble during his performance at the Beach Please! Festival in Romania. The rapper, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was charged with illegal drug possession after allegedly using marijuana on stage Saturday night.

Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors, DIICOT, released a statement on Sunday detailing the charges. “The prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Constanța Territorial Service ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against a defendant (US citizen), investigated for the crime of unlawful possession of drugs risk,” the statement read. It was reported that Khalifa possessed over 18 grams of cannabis and consumed additional marijuana in the form of a craft cigarette during his performance at the festival in Costinești, Constanța county.

Following his performance, Khalifa and several others were taken in for questioning by authorities early Sunday. Despite being charged, Khalifa was released from custody shortly afterward.Wiz Khalifa

A video posted online showed the “See You Again” rapper being escorted from the festival grounds by Romanian police officers. Possession of marijuana in Romania can result in severe penalties, with potential sentences of up to 10 years in prison.

In response to the incident, Khalifa took to social media platform X to express his regret. He stated, “I did not mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

Earlier this year, Khalifa admitted on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that he often attends his son Sebastian’s parent-teacher conferences under the influence of marijuana. “Hell yeah. I’m pulling up stoned. They expect it,” he said. “They know what’s up. It’s not like back in the day [where] you’re considered a bad parent if you smoke weed.”

Despite his recent legal issues in Romania, Khalifa remains a prominent figure in the music industry. His candid acknowledgment of his actions and the respectful handling of the situation by Romanian authorities may help him navigate this latest challenge.
