Rapper Playboi Carti — born Jordan Terrell Carter — is facing new legal trouble after a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an alleged incident in Utah on October 2. The case involves a limousine driver and Carti’s girlfriend, bringing the hip-hop star under fresh scrutiny.

What Happened in Utah

According to reports from the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near Park City when Carti and his entourage were being driven to a rehearsal for his Antagonist Tour. The limo driver, identified as Carl Reynolds, intervened after an argument broke out between Carti and his girlfriend. Reynolds claims that Carti punched him unexpectedly — the driver, while steering the vehicle, allegedly felt the blow even though he was not looking. The driver also asserted there was visible injury, describing redness and a mark consistent with a fist strike.

A week later, on October 9, Carti was formally cited and charged with misdemeanor assault in Wasatch County.

Carti’s Legal History

This is not the first time Carti has been implicated in assault cases. His past includes a 2017 domestic battery arrest, a 2019 assault conviction in Scotland for punching a tour bus driver, and a 2022 felony aggravated assault charge for allegedly choking a pregnant girlfriend.

Given this context, the latest charge adds to what some observers consider a pattern of troubling behaviour — one that may have consequences for both his reputation and career.

What This Means for Carti & His Tour

Carti was in Utah for the opening of his North American headlining run. Such legal issues can disrupt tour logistics, sponsorships and public perception. According to industry insiders, venues and brands often monitor artists’ legal matters closely — especially where violence is involved. The rapper’s legal team has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
