Despite being on an international tour, Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion is stepping up to support her hometown. The 29-year-old artist has announced the launch of the Emergency Power Program to assist senior citizens in Houston affected by Hurricane Beryl.
Hurricane Beryl left more than two million Houston residents without power, causing significant hardship, especially among the elderly. Tragically, 18 residents lost their lives due to the hurricane, with six deaths attributed to heat exposure during the power outage.
In response, Megan Thee Stallion’s Pete and Thomas Foundation has partnered with Bread of Life, Inc. to provide generators to senior citizens. This initiative aims to ensure that the elderly are not left without electricity during future natural disasters.
“It’s been painful to watch the elderly population in Houston suffer without electricity during these devastating storms,” Megan, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, said in a statement. “That’s why we wanted to partner with Bread of Life to take a strategic approach to this problem and secure generators to help protect our senior citizens. We need to do our part to provide our elders with the best resources possible to withstand future emergencies.”

Rudy Rasmus, the executive director and founder of Bread of Life, emphasized the urgency of the situation. “The derecho and hurricane that hit the city have highlighted that our seniors are in dire need of assistance,” he stated.
Megan Thee Stallion founded the Pete and Thomas Foundation in 2022. The foundation focuses on providing resources for women and children, senior citizens, and underserved communities in Houston and globally. Its programs emphasize education, housing, health and wellness, and community goodwill.
With this new initiative, Megan Thee Stallion continues to demonstrate her commitment to giving back to her community and supporting those in need, even while managing her busy career.
