Lizzo Rebuts ‘Salacious’ Lawsuit Filed by Former Employee

Lizzo’s legal team is vehemently responding to a harassment and discrimination lawsuit brought forth by a former clothing designer for her tour, dismissing it as baseless and labeling the plaintiff a “disgruntled” employee. Asha Daniels, who worked on Lizzo’s Special Tour earlier this year, filed the lawsuit in September, alleging a “culture of racism and bullying.”

The legal rebuttal, filed on Friday in a Los Angeles court by Lizzo’s attorney Martin D. Singer, contends that Daniels is merely a disgruntled worker who was terminated after just three weeks on the job for insubordination. Singer asserts that Daniels failed to comply with instructions, neglected assigned tasks, and eventually “played hooky,” refusing to show up for work, leading to her termination on the day of a concert in Paris, France.

Singer argues that the case should be immediately dismissed, emphasizing that Daniels filed the lawsuit in the wrong jurisdiction. Lizzo’s legal team contends that Daniels, a New York resident who worked for a Delaware corporation in Europe, lacks the necessary connection to California to justify filing the suit there.

In response to Lizzo’s legal motion, Daniels’ lawyers issued a statement on Monday, characterizing it as “yet another Hail Mary by Lizzo’s team to try to shift blame to the victims” and expressing their commitment to seeking justice for their clients.

This legal development follows a previous lawsuit filed in August by three former dancers—Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez—accusing Lizzo of sexual harassment, a hostile work environment, and body-shaming. The latter allegation, centered around body size, resonated strongly given Lizzo’s advocacy for body positivity.

Daniels, hired to alter and repair wardrobe designs for Lizzo’s dancers on the world tour, filed her complaint several weeks later, citing issues of privacy and inappropriate behavior by the stage crew. Lizzo’s legal team, led by Martin D. Singer, continues to vigorously contest these claims, portraying them as fabricated and driven by personal grievances.
