Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR have officially secured the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart with their collaborative album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The project debuted at No. 1, selling 246,000 units in its first week, according to Luminate.

This milestone marks a significant achievement for both artists. For PARTYNEXTDOOR, it’s his first No. 1 album, a major career breakthrough. Meanwhile, Drake adds another accolade to his already extensive list, bringing his total number of Billboard-topping albums to 14. This achievement ties him with Jay-Z and Taylor Swift for the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist, with only The Beatles surpassing them at 19.

Streaming played a crucial role in the album’s success, accounting for 219,000 of the total units sold. With a staggering 287 million on-demand streams, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U now holds the title for the biggest streaming week of 2025 so far. The last album to generate higher streaming numbers was Kendrick Lamar’s GNX, which racked up 380 million first-week streams.

The album’s release comes at a complicated time for Drake, whose legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG) over alleged defamation regarding “Not Like Us” raised questions about his relationship with the label. Despite this, the project was still released under UMG, and reports suggest the label has profited significantly from its success. However, official confirmations on the financial impact remain unclear.

While securing the top spot is a major win, some industry watchers have noted that $ome $exy $ongs 4 U didn’t reach the numbers of Drake’s past first-week sales. Historically, Drake’s albums have often debuted with over 400,000 units. Some speculate that factors such as this being a collaborative project, as well as unverified claims about streaming platforms limiting visibility, may have contributed to the lower-than-usual figures.

Regardless of the sales debate, the album’s success is undeniable. It reinforces PARTYNEXTDOOR’s position as a major player in R&B and adds another win to Drake’s already historic career. While some fans see this as Drake reclaiming dominance over Kendrick Lamar, others believe the focus should stay on the music itself rather than industry competition.
