Wizkid Honors Late Mother with the Release of His New Album ‘Morayo’

After months of anticipation, Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has unveiled his fifth studio album, Morayo. Released in the early hours of Friday across major streaming platforms, the album is a deeply personal tribute to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.

A Heartfelt Dedication

Morayo captures Wizkid’s emotional journey following his mother’s demise, blending heartfelt lyrics with diverse sounds. The album’s title, believed to symbolize joy and remembrance, reflects his effort to celebrate her legacy through music.

The 16-track project features a rich mix of genres and collaborations, with standout songs such as Troubled Mind, Karamo, Kese (Dance), Bad Girl, and Piece of My Heart. Other notable tracks include A Million Blessings, Après Minuit, Lose, and Pray.

Star-Studded Collaborations

Wizkid enlists a stellar lineup of artists on Morayo, including Nigerian sensation Asake, American R&B stars Brent Faiyaz and Jazmine Sullivan, French artist Tiakola, and singer-songwriter Anaïs. Preceding the album’s release, fans were treated to singles like Piece of My Heart in October and Kese (Dance) in November, building excitement for the full project.

A Legacy of Hits

Born Ayodeji Balogun, Wizkid first rose to prominence with his debut album Superstar in 2011, which featured hits like Holla at Your Boy. Over the years, he has released critically acclaimed projects such as Ayo (2014), Sound From The Other Side (2017), Made In Lagos (2020), and More Love, Less Ego (2022).

His achievements include a Grammy Award in 2021 for his contribution to Beyoncé’s Brown Skin Girl and Made in Lagosbeing crowned the most-streamed Nigerian album on Apple Music in October 2023.

With Morayo, Wizkid continues to showcase his versatility and global appeal while offering fans an intimate glimpse into his personal life. The album not only cements his status as one of Africa’s greatest music exports but also serves as a touching ode to his mother’s memory.
