Playboi Carti, the enigmatic rapper known for his avant-garde style and chart-topping hits, recently claimed that he was banned from attending the 2025 Met Gala. In an Instagram post shared on May 6, Carti expressed his feelings about the alleged exclusion, stating, “MET GALA BANNED ME FELT LIKE WE GOT KICKED OUT OF PROM BUT WE GOOD.”

The Met Gala, held annually at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, is one of the most prestigious fashion events, attracting celebrities from various industries. This year’s gala, co-chaired by A$AP Rocky, a close friend of Carti, featured a star-studded lineup. Carti’s absence was notable, especially given his recent success with his album Music, which topped the Billboard 200 chart in March.

Despite not attending the event, Carti and his girlfriend, Gio, conducted their own photoshoot, emulating the iconic 2018 hotel hallway photo of Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Kim Kardashian. Carti donned a leather ensemble paired with a Chrome Hearts beanie, showcasing his distinctive fashion sense.

The reasons behind Carti’s alleged ban remain unclear, as he did not provide specific details. Billboard has reached out to the Met Gala organizers for comment.

Carti’s claim adds to the ongoing discussions about the exclusivity of the Met Gala and the dynamics of celebrity invitations. While the event maintains strict policies, including bans on cell phone use and smoking, instances of rule-breaking have occurred, such as Megan Thee Stallion sneaking in her phone this year.

As Carti continues to make waves in the music industry, fans eagerly await further developments and potential clarifications regarding his Met Gala experience.
