Pop star and body positivity icon Lizzo didn’t hold back this weekend when she confronted rapper Yung Miami over a remark made during a recent interview. On March 23, during a candid Twitch stream, Lizzo phoned in Yung Miami and asked her directly about a moment from Yung Miami’s sit-down on Club Shay Shay where she appeared to make a dismissive comment about the singer’s weight — using the word “eww” in reference to her.
The moment, which quickly circulated online, had fans speculating about whether the comment was a dig or taken out of context. But Lizzo wasn’t leaving anything to interpretation.
In the stream, Lizzo — visibly calm but assertive — asked, “I heard you say something about me and you said ‘eww.’ I just wanted to ask: what did you mean by that?”
Caught slightly off guard, Yung Miami responded quickly and clarified her stance. “Girl, no! I was saying ‘eww’ at how people always got something to say about women’s bodies — like, it’s tired,” she explained. “I wasn’t coming for you. I actually meant it as support ’cause people stay trying you, and I don’t like that.”
Lizzo seemed to accept the explanation but also made it clear that moments like these are personal. Known for being a loud and proud advocate for self-love and inclusion, Lizzo has consistently pushed back against toxic beauty standards — and this was no different.
The interaction, although tense at first, didn’t turn ugly. Instead, it became a teachable moment about how quickly tone and intention can be misunderstood, especially in public interviews and viral clips.
As the dust settles, the confrontation is sparking conversations online about how women — especially Black women — are often scrutinized for their bodies, and how allies can sometimes unintentionally contribute to the noise. Lizzo’s decision to address it head-on was seen by many fans as both bold and necessary.
