Kanye West has dismissed the financial impact of Shopify banning his Yeezy merchandise store, claiming he made $40 million within 24 hours through his various business ventures.
In a now-deleted social media post, West addressed the controversy, saying that despite being cut off from Shopify, his earnings remained unaffected. “I will write this more poetically in a bit cause right now I’m finishing my verse for Game’s album,” he began. West also suggested that his defiant stance on certain topics had not led to the financial downfall some anticipated. “I said all these politically incorrect things, and nobody was able to stop me, extort me, or threaten me to change anything,” he stated.
The rapper and designer continued by reflecting on recent professional setbacks, including the departure of key Yeezy team members. “I lost one of my favorite Yeezy designers, named Simon. He tailored the Grammy dress. This was a major loss. We lost Malcolm, who was our lead stylist and shopper and also found Simon,” he shared. Despite this, West suggested that his actions were part of a larger plan, saying, “Maybe one day they will understand why I had to do what I did, and one day they will forgive my method.”
West also took aim at Shopify directly, expressing his disdain for the company and criticizing their decision to remove his store. “I always hated Shopify,” he wrote, accusing them of acting unfairly. The e-commerce giant banned his Yeezy website after he promoted it with a Super Bowl commercial and later attempted to sell merchandise featuring swastikas.
Following the ban, Shopify released a statement justifying their decision. “All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform. This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify,” the company told CBS MoneyWatch.
