Afrobeats powerhouse Burna Boy has unveiled “Update,” the latest single from his highly anticipated eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, set for release this summer. Produced by P2J, the track channels the vibrant energy that defined his African Giant era, blending sharp percussion with a refined vocal delivery that underscores his musical evolution.

Right from the opening line—“On a normal day, dem no fit touch my energy”—Burna Boy exudes the confidence that fuels his anthems. The track borrows from Soul II Soul’s 1989 hit “Back to Life (However Do You Want It),” seamlessly weaving the classic R&B refrain into a rich Afropop soundscape. The dreamy “however do you want me” vocal sample sits beautifully over the rhythmic, piano-infused production, echoing a trend of fusing nostalgic soul elements with contemporary African beats.

Burna Boy has been spotted in Lagos in recent weeks, embracing his global star status while enjoying a well-earned break. His larger-than-life persona, which shone through his December hit “Bundle By Bundle,” carries over into “Update.” However, this time, there’s a deeper artistic finesse, highlighting the versatility that keeps him at the top of the industry.

The music video, directed by UAX, visually captures this celebratory energy, presenting Burna Boy as the glowing, carefree superstar with nothing but good vibes and, fittingly, no sign of weakness. With “Update,” he sets the tone for an album that promises to be both a reflection of his journey and a statement of his unwavering dominance in the music scene.
