Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken out about his upbringing, emphasizing that he comes from a respectable family. The Afrobeat star made this statement during a visit to the Olu of Warri in Delta State on Saturday, seeking to dispel misconceptions surrounding his background.

Davido, who has often found himself in the spotlight for various controversies, explained that his occasional celebrity antics should not be mistaken as a reflection of his upbringing. “I was brought up by great parents,” the singer affirmed. “I come from a very respectful family, but sometimes, as OBO, I may act out of place.” OBO is a nickname Davido is widely known by, standing for “Omo Baba Olowo,” which translates to “son of a wealthy man.”

This statement comes in the wake of remarks from fellow artist Wizkid, who seemingly took a jab at Davido’s family in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter). Wizkid’s comment appeared to mock the Adeleke family’s public persona, particularly targeting Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is often referred to as the “Dancing Governor” due to his viral dance videos. Wizkid’s post read, “When u see people wey dem papa and family train, u go know! U don’t see my uncle dancing online!”

Despite the subtle shade, Davido’s visit to the Olu of Warri underscores his efforts to maintain strong ties with Nigeria’s cultural and traditional leaders, a gesture reflective of his deep respect for his roots. His message during the visit seemed aimed at reminding critics and fans alike that his public persona as a global music icon does not overshadow the values instilled in him by his family.

As one of Africa’s most popular musicians, Davido continues to navigate the complexities of fame while staying connected to his heritage and the values he holds dear.
