In a candid admission, Ghanaian artist M3nsa Ansah has affirmed that Nigerian musicians currently produce superior music compared to their Ghanaian counterparts. M3nsa attributes this disparity to the international acclaim garnered by Nigerian songs, citing increased investments in both time and money as crucial factors.

M3nsa expressed his viewpoint in an interview with JoyNews, highlighting the need for Ghanaian artists to prioritize quality and invest more in their craft. He emphasized the entrepreneurial approach taken by Nigerian musicians, stressing the importance of self-driven initiatives rather than relying solely on government support.

“Definitely, Nigerians are making better music than Ghanaians. I have to say this. … They are definitely making better quality music because they are investing more money and time. There’s more of an understanding for the importance of arts, but also in an entrepreneurial way. So it’s not waiting for the government to do something but it’s just like support, people investing a lot of money into creating world-class music,” M3nsa stated during the interview.

His acknowledgment coincides with an ongoing campaign in Ghana, advocating for a minimum of 70% airplay for local songs on media platforms and at events. While recognizing a few Ghanaian artists who are taking their productions more seriously, M3nsa lamented that these efforts were not sufficient.

This candid assessment sparks conversations about the state of the music industry in Ghana and the potential for growth through increased investments and a collective commitment to enhancing the quality of local productions. As the debate continues, industry stakeholders may find new inspiration to foster a more vibrant and globally competitive Ghanaian music scene.
