Atlanta rapper Future has finally confirmed the release date for his highly anticipated mixtape, Pluto. After months of teasing fans on social media, Future announced that the project will drop on September 20. This mixtape has been long-awaited since his cryptic tweet in May that read, “Fuck yo album Shit ain’t slappin like my MIXTAPE,” igniting excitement among his followers.
Pluto marks Future’s third major release of 2024. Earlier this year, in March, he collaborated with Metro Boomin on the album We Don’t Trust You. Just three weeks later, the duo followed up with a second project, We Still Don’t Trust You. The albums stirred the rap world, particularly due to perceived shots at fellow rapper Drake, most notably through Kendrick Lamar’s verse on the track “Like That,” which took aim at both Drake and J. Cole.
Lamar’s diss sparked a fierce back-and-forth between him and Drake, resulting in a series of diss tracks from both sides. Drake initially responded with “Push Ups,” followed by a controversial track titled “Taylor Made Freestyle,” which used AI-generated voices resembling 2Pac and Snoop Dogg. This track was swiftly removed after a legal challenge from 2Pac’s estate. Lamar, undeterred, fired back with tracks like “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.” The feud culminated with Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams” and the upbeat track “Not Like Us,” which pushed Drake to release his final response, “The Heart Part 6.”

Though the heated exchanges eventually cooled off, the rivalry between Drake and Kendrick left its mark on the rap scene, with fans and critics closely following the drama. Even Future and Metro Boomin found themselves mentioned in Drake’s diss tracks, with Drake taking shots at Future on “Family Matters,” rapping, “Pluto shit make me sick to my stomach, we ain’t never really been through it.”
For Future, Pluto represents a return to his solo work after a busy collaborative year. His last solo album, I Never Liked You, released in April 2022, featured the Grammy-winning single “Wait for U,” which included a guest appearance by Drake.
With the September release of Pluto on the horizon, fans are eager to see what Future has in store, especially after a year of high-profile collaborations and drama. Whether or not the mixtape will continue to address his ongoing tensions with Drake remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—Future is ready to reclaim his spot at the top of the charts.
