Drake has hit back at Yasiin Bey with a little help from Method Man.
Bey (formerly Mos Def) labeled Drizzy as a “pop” artist in a recent interview, but the Canadian superstar has fired back in response.
On Monday (January 15), Drake shared an old interview clip of Method Man on his Instagram Stories, captioning it with: “What umi say again? Lemme shine my light king don’t change up now,” alluding to Bey’s timeless track “Umi Says.”
In the mentioned video, the Wu-Tang Clan icon describes his perspective on Hip Hop, defining it as a culture encompassing lifestyle, attire, speech, and movement. He emphasizes elements like breakdancing, rhyming, stage presence, DJ skills, mixing and scratching, and intricate wordplay as integral components of Hip Hop.

Last week, Yasiin Bey shared his thoughts on Drake during an interview with The Cutting Room Floor, stating, “Drake is pop to me. It’s like, if I were in Target in Houston and heard a Drake song, it feels like a lot of his music pairs well with shopping, or shopping with an edge in certain instances.”
While acknowledging the likeability of the 6 God’s music, Bey humorously suggested that his songs serve as an ideal backdrop for commercial settings.
