Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, delivered a show-stopping performance during Ethiopia’s New Year celebration, marking the country’s entry into 2017. The vibrant event took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, as thousands of excited fans gathered to welcome the new year in the Ethiopian calendar.

The Ethiopian calendar, known as the Ge’ez calendar, is based on ancient traditions and follows a system different from the widely used Gregorian calendar, placing Ethiopia seven years behind the rest of the world. This fascinating calendar divides the year into 13 months—12 months of 30 days each, with an additional month, Pagumen, that has five or six days depending on whether it’s a leap year.

Traditionally, families gather to exchange gifts, share meals, and enjoy lively cultural festivities. The celebrations feature traditional music, dance, and other performances that highlight Ethiopia’s rich heritage.

For Davido, the event provided a unique opportunity to connect with his Ethiopian fans and immerse himself in the country’s distinctive cultural celebrations. His energetic performance at the New Year party added to the joyful atmosphere, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
