Amazon Removes Memoir About Kim Porter After Children Challenge Its Authenticity

Amazon has pulled a controversial memoir about the late Kim Porter from its store after her children refuted its authenticity. The book, which claimed to reveal abusive incidents involving music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, was withdrawn from sale after the children of the deceased model and actress denounced it as false.

The memoir, titled KIM’S LOST WORDS: A Journey for Justice, From the Other Side, surfaced online earlier this month and quickly became a bestseller, largely fueled by recent allegations against Combs. The book alleged that Porter, who passed away in 2018, had documented years of abuse by Combs before her death. However, Porter’s children—Christian (King) Combs and twins D’Lila and Jessie Combs, along with Quincy Brown, Porter’s son from a previous relationship—denied that their mother had written any such memoir.

In a statement released on Instagram on September 24, Porter’s children clarified that the memoir was fabricated, and they had no knowledge of its existence prior to its release. The book, published by Chris Todd on September 6, detailed accusations of physical abuse, sexual coercion, and other violent acts allegedly committed by Combs. However, Porter’s children insisted that their mother never authored the memoir that Todd claimed to have found on a hard drive.

Following this revelation, Amazon responded by pulling the book from its platform. “We were made aware of a dispute regarding this title and have notified the publisher,” an Amazon spokesperson said, as quoted by The Associated Press. “The book is not currently available for sale in our store.”

Before its removal, the memoir had briefly topped Amazon’s bestseller list, driven by heightened public interest following Combs’ arrest on September 16. The music mogul was apprehended by federal agents at a Manhattan hotel and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and other serious offenses.

Despite the memoir’s quick rise in sales, the children’s statement significantly undermined its credibility, leading to its removal from Amazon’s shelves.

Kim Porter passed away on November 15, 2018, at the age of 47 in her Los Angeles home. Although her death was initially labeled “deferred,” the coroner later confirmed lobar pneumonia as the cause. Since her passing, her children have consistently defended her legacy, and the controversy surrounding the disputed memoir is just the latest chapter in their effort to protect her memory.

This episode underscores the sensitive nature of posthumous publications and the importance of verifying authenticity, especially when they involve public figures and potentially damaging claims.
