Ahmed Ololade, the Nigerian music sensation known as Asake, clinched the title of ‘Best African Music Act’ at the 2024 MOBO Awards.
The MOBO Awards, an annual British event celebrating accomplishments in “music of black origin,” took place on Wednesday at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena in the UK, marking its 26th edition.
Indiyah Polack, the TV personality, and Babatunde Aléshé, the stand-up comedian, served as hosts for the event.
Asake emerged victorious in the ‘Best African Music Act’ category, surpassing South Africa’s Tyla as well as notable music figures such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.
Other nominees in the category included Rema, Adekunle Gold, and Ayra Starr.

Asake’s victory follows shortly after his loss in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category at this year’s Grammy Awards to Tyla.
