A$AP Rocky, the Grammy-nominated rapper and partner of global music icon Rihanna, was acquitted on Tuesday of two felony assault charges related to a 2021 incident in Hollywood. A Los Angeles jury found him not guilty of allegations that he had pointed and fired a handgun at his former associate, Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli.
The courtroom erupted in cheers as the verdict was read. Overcome with emotion, Rocky leaped into the crowd of supporters, embracing them in celebration. “Thank y’all for saving my life,” he said, directing his gratitude toward the 12-person jury that cleared him of the serious charges.
The charges stemmed from a confrontation on November 6, 2021, when Ephron accused Rocky of pulling a gun on him during a heated exchange and later firing two shots in his direction. Ephron claimed he sustained a minor injury from a bullet grazing his knuckles.
Rocky’s legal team, however, argued that the firearm in question was a prop gun used in a music video and was incapable of firing live rounds. They further contended that Ephron had been the aggressor in the dispute, challenging the credibility of his accusations.
After weeks of testimony and legal arguments, the jury ultimately sided with Rocky, concluding there was insufficient evidence to support the charges.
Following the verdict, Rocky stood outside the courthouse alongside Rihanna and his legal team, expressing both relief and gratitude. “We want to thank God first,” he said. “This is crazy right now. I’m thankful and blessed to be here, to be a free man talking to y’all.”
Rihanna, who appeared in court several times throughout the trial, brought the couple’s young sons, RZA, 2, and Riot, 1, to the proceedings during closing arguments. Her presence highlighted the personal stakes involved in the case beyond its legal implications.
Despite the acquittal, the legal battle may not be entirely over for Rocky. Ephron has also filed a civil lawsuit against him, seeking damages for the alleged incident. It remains to be seen how that case will unfold.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman acknowledged the jury’s decision, stating that his office respects the outcome of the trial.
Rocky, known for his chart-topping albums Long. Live. A$AP and At.Long.Last.A$AP, has remained a dominant force in hip-hop since his debut. With this legal ordeal behind him, fans will be watching closely to see what the rapper’s next move will be—both personally and professionally.
