Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s selection as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, a decision that sparked some backlash from fans and even Lil Wayne himself.
While many celebrated Lamar’s achievement, a vocal minority questioned why New Orleans’ own Lil Wayne was not chosen for the prestigious performance. The conversation escalated when Lil Wayne subtly expressed his disappointment, igniting discussions across social media.
Snoop Dogg addressed the issue during a recent appearance on Drink Champs, hosted by N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. Speaking openly during the show, which was recorded at ComplexCon 2024, Snoop highlighted the broader significance of hip-hop’s presence at such a global event.

“Before Jay-Z got control of the Super Bowl, there were no n****s performing,” Snoop stated, referencing the Roc Nation mogul’s influence on curating the halftime show. “He’s creating a wave of artists to be able to have the opportunity to perform. If you’re a good artist or a great artist, your time will come.”
The rapper emphasized the importance of celebrating hip-hop’s progress rather than fostering division. “You should just be honored that hip-hop is being able to be seen on that platform for all of us and not hate on the next man, but be happy,” he added.
Snoop’s comments come as the halftime show continues to evolve, featuring a more diverse lineup of performers in recent years. With Kendrick Lamar set to take center stage in 2025, the spotlight on hip-hop remains brighter than ever.
As the debate rages on, Snoop’s perspective serves as a reminder of the strides hip-hop has made on mainstream platforms and the importance of unity in celebrating those achievements.
