Nigerian rapper and music executive Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide, recently shared the reason why he did not sign singer Omah Lay to his record label, YBNL Nation.
During an interview with British-Nigerian media personality Adesope Olajide, also known as Shopsydoo, the YBNL boss revealed that he had shown interest in signing Omah Lay early in his career. However, Omah Lay informed him that he had already signed a contract with another label.
Olamide recounted the experience, stating, “I received a song by Omah Lay titled ‘Bad Influence,’ and I had to search for him on Instagram. I messaged him expressing my desire to sign him, but he informed me that he had already secured a recording deal.”
The rapper also opened up about a period of approximately four years during which he felt depressed after experiencing a creative slump and being unable to produce hit songs.
Nevertheless, Olamide regained his confidence and creative spark after releasing successful tracks like ‘Wo‘ and ‘Motigbana.’ He described these songs, even to this day, as having a magical quality that revitalized his career. He admitted, “I believed I could never find myself again. I was losing my mind.”
