Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has added another Grammy to her collection. At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Tems clinched the Best African Music Performance award for her song Love Me JeJe.

The category, introduced in 2024, saw stiff competition from other top African artists, including Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Asake & Wizkid (MMS), Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay (Sensational), and Burna Boy (Higher). However, Tems emerged victorious, securing her second Grammy win.

Tems’ latest achievement adds to her growing influence on the global music scene. With this win, she now boasts eight career Grammy nominations and was also nominated in two other categories this year:

  • Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild)
  • Best R&B Song (Burning)

Although she didn’t take home the trophies in those categories, her nominations further cement her position as one of Africa’s most impactful artists on the international stage.

This year’s Grammy ceremony featured a strong presence of Nigerian and African artists, showcasing the continent’s expanding influence in global music. While Tems celebrated her win, Rema’s album Heis was nominated for Best Global Music Album, though the award went to Matt B & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Alkebulan II.
