The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, titled ‘Michael,’ is reportedly set to be divided into two parts, a decision that may influence its scheduled release date of October 3, 2025.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film is being produced with domestic distribution by Lionsgate and international distribution by Universal Pictures. Sources indicate that the move to serialize the biopic, along with necessary adjustments due to legal considerations, could lead to a revised release timeline.
The production faced complications related to depicting events from Jackson’s life, particularly concerning the portrayal of the 1993 child molestation allegations by the Chandler family. Legal restrictions stemming from past settlements have necessitated significant rewrites and reshoots of the film’s third act. The Jackson estate, financing the $155 million project, is covering the costs of these reshoots.
Jaafar Jackson, the late pop icon’s nephew and son of Jermaine Jackson, is set to portray Michael Jackson. The cast also includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. Other notable portrayals feature Miles Teller as estate lawyer John Branca, Larenz Tate as Motown founder Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.
While initial reports suggested a potential shift to a 2026 release, there are discussions about a possible premiere during the upcoming holiday season to align with award season considerations.
Fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the film’s release schedule and anticipate a comprehensive portrayal of Michael Jackson’s life and legacy.
