Janet Jackson, the iconic pop star, recently disclosed a missed opportunity from her illustrious career: the chance to portray a superhero on the silver screen.
During a teaser clip of her upcoming appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Jackson revealed that she was offered the role of Storm in one of the 2000s X-Men movies, a role eventually filled by Halle Berry.
The conversation stemmed from a photo of Jackson at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, clad in an all-black Matrix-inspired ensemble. Prompted by the image, the hosts inquired about her involvement in The Matrix, to which Jackson clarified the missed opportunity with X-Men.
Reflecting on the near-miss, Jackson expressed her long-standing desire to play a superhero, dating back to the ’90s. She recounted how director Bryan Singer approached her for the role of Storm before casting Halle Berry but had to decline due to her commitments to the Janet Tour at the time.
Despite missing out on the opportunity, Jackson remains a fan of Storm, considering her one of her favorite Marvel characters.
