Nigerian singer Omah Lay is keeping it real in the face of his first-ever Grammy nomination. The rising Afrobeats star, born Stanley Omah Didia, earned the nod for his collaboration with Davido, “With You”, in the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th annual Grammy Awards.

Reacting on Instagram, Omah Lay expressed excitement about the recognition — but made it clear that awards themselves aren’t his priority. “I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards,” he wrote. Yet, in true friendship fashion, he made one thing clear: his vote of confidence goes to Davido, calling him “the realest friend I’ve had in a while” and praising his support during tough times.

Davido, who has previously received four Grammy nominations — including two in the Best African Music Performance category — has yet to secure a win. The 2026 Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with a global broadcast on CBS and streaming via Paramount+.

Omah Lay’s candid reaction underscores a broader perspective shared by many African artists: while global recognition is welcome, the art, the fans, and authentic connections matter far more than the trophy itself. This nomination, however, positions him firmly among Africa’s rising international stars, signaling that his influence in Afrobeats continues to grow.
