As announced on Wednesday, October 4, the RIAA has updated its records to award Tems with two accolades: a Platinum plaque for ‘Free Mind’ and a Gold plaque for ‘Higher.’

The Nigerian musical sensation continues her meteoric rise in the international music arena. Before the much-anticipated release of her debut studio album, she had already secured a place in history with a Hot 100 #1 hit ‘Wait For U’ alongside Drake & Future, a global top 10 sensation ‘Essence’ featuring WizKid, and a chart-topping hit on the R&B charts, ‘Free Mind.’

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) honored Tems’ commercial success by awarding her with prestigious plaques.

These recognitions are not just ornamental but signify the vast sales success of these tracks. The Platinum certification for ‘Free Mind’ represents the impressive sales equivalent of 1 million units in the United States. Meanwhile, the Gold plaque for ‘Higher’ marks the sale of 500,000 units in the U.S.

Peaking at #46 on the Hot 100 during its zenith, ‘Free Mind’ not only showcased Tems’ vocal prowess but also her ability to resonate with a vast audience. Currently, this Omeiza-produced track from her debut EP ‘For Broken Ears’ holds the title as her highest-charting song.

With such achievements under her belt even before her debut album’s release, Tems is undeniably setting the stage for a promising and dominant career in the music industry.
